EETA Ladder Rules
NEW MATCH RULES: Since in the past
frequently time would expire before players could finish matches, we
will now require that all ladder matches lead to a clear winner.
In order to finish within the typical 1 hour 15 minute court time, it's
recommended that you play one 8-game pro set with no-ad scoring (12
point tie-breaker at 8 all). If court time is not an issue, then you can
choose to play 2 out of 3 regular scoring or whatever type sets you
prefer.
Regardless of the type of sets played, if time has expired before all
sets are completed the player with the most games won is declared the
winner.
You may challenge any player on the ladder who is within five spots
above your position at the time you arrange the match. If that
player moves up after you have already arranged you challenge, you may
still play them.
If a challenger wins his match, the challenger takes their opponents
position on the ladder while the loser drops down one place.
-
New players who just joined the ladder can challenge
anywhere on the ladder for their first match. If they lose that first match, they will
then start on the bottom of the
ladder and can then work themselves up from there.
-
Inactive players (away, injured, or not able to
play at this time) will be placed on Inactive Status and their
previous rank will still be noted. When they are ready to
challenge again, they can challenge back on at the same number of their
previous rank. If they lose that match, they then start out 5
places below their previous rank on the ladder. PLEASE NOTIFY US
if you need to be inactive for a while.
The challenger provides one can of new balls for the match.
-
The person being challenged gets to choose the site, date and time for
the match. If one of the players is a member of a participating local tennis club (US SportsPlex, Eugene Swim & Tennis Club or YMCA Tennis Center), you will not be charged an extra fee for playing your ladder match
at that participating tennis club.
Defaults: When challenging someone,
please make every effort to contact them. You may take their spot by
default if: 1) the person you challenge does not arrange a match with
you within 2 weeks after having spoken with them in person, or 2) they
don't show up for your scheduled match. The idea is to be
flexible, but also to be sure that matches get scheduled within a
reasonable time when a challenge is requested.
The goal of ladder play is to have fun, meet some new players, and get a
chance to work on improving your tennis game with great competition.
